Rafiki Maji which means water friends in swahili, is based on the simple premis of community. The local community reaching out to the Temeke community in Tanzania and impacting lives by simply being aware and helping in ways big and small.
From living in Tanzania I realized that the lack of safe drinking water was a huge problem in that part of the world. Then I did not think that I would be able to do anything to help on my own. By going to The Berkeley School and being inspired by Free the Children and We Day I decided to try to do something about a cause that I felt passionate about. When I went back to Tanzania I got in contact with the organization WaterAid. They help give sanitation and clean water to communities around the world. With their help I found a place in need of clean water. Mgeninani Primary school. They currently only have 1st and 2nd grade there but every year they are adding on a new grade. Currently their water situation consists of having to borrow and pay for limited water without knowing if it safe or not.

Hongera sana (big congratulations) Olivia! This is a worthy cause you have chosen and I have seen the situation first hand. I wish you much success and my wife and I will make a contribution and see what other support we can mobilize. --Richard Killian, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
